FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 9, 2006 Lions fall to Truman State, 70-53, in MIAA opener Box Score Joplin, Mo - Despite 16 points on 6-10 shooting from TJ Britton (Poplar Bluff, Mo.), the Missouri Southern Lions couldn't overcome a 21-point halftime deficit and fell at home to Truman State in their MIAA opener, 70-53. Southern (5-4, 0-1 MIAA) kept the game close in the opening minutes, trailing by just three points, 12-9, at the 15 minute mark of the first half. From that point, however, Truman went on a 27-3 run to go up 39-14 with three minutes to go in the half. The Lions would go into the locker room trailing 39-18 at the half. Truman (6-2, 1-0 MIAA) had 15 points from Nick Certa at the half. Andy Calmes added 10 points and nine rebounds. The Bulldogs went up by as much as 25 with 16:50 minute mark of the second half. Southern, however, went on a 17-6 run over the next five minutes to cut the lead to 14 at 54-40. That would be as close as the Lions would get. Britton led the Lions with 16 points. Southern held the Bulldogs without a field goal for the final four minutes of the game. Certa scored 23 points to lead all scorers. Calmes added 12 points an d13 rebounds, while Austin Kirby scored 12. Grant Agbo had eight points and ten boards. Southern will be back in action next
Saturday, December 16 when the Lions travel to Southwestern Oklahoma.
