For Immediate Release Lions announce another men's basketball early signee Head men's basketball coach Robert Corn has announced the addition of another signee for the 2006-07 season. T.J. Britton, a 6-foot-3 guard from Mineral Area (Mo.) College, signed during the early signing period to play basketball with the Lions next year. "We're very pleased to have T.J. join our program," said Corn. "He brings us a lot of versatility in the fact that he's an outstanding athlete and that he can guard a number of different positions. He's capable of playing the point and can also play either one of the wing positions, so he can help us in a variety of ways." This season, Britton is averaging 11 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game as a sophomore for Mineral Area, a team that's currently 6-0 and ranked No. 19 in the NJCAA Preseason poll. Last season, Britton averaged 4.2 points and 3.1 assists per game with the Cardinals. He shot 41.8 percent from the field, including 46.7 percent from three-point range. Britton came to Mineral Area from Florssant Valley Community College where he competed in track & field and was a junior college All-American. He prepped at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) High School, where he was an all-conference, all-district and honorable mention all-state performer on the hardcourt. He was also all-state and a high school All-American in track & field. Britton, who will be a junior with the Lions, joins Kyle Schrage (Carl Junction, Mo.) on the Lions' list of early signees. Missouri Southern, off to a 2-0 start to the 2005-06 season, returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 22) at Missouri-St. Louis before returning home for the Freeman Sports Medicine/Chris Tucker Memorial Classic on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 25-26). The Lions will face Missouri Baptist and Bemidji (Minn.) State in the event, which also includes Pittsburg State University. |
