Southern men fall at Indiana State, 75-48 in exhibition opener

Terre Haute, IN - Deonte Cox (St. Louis, MO/Forrest Park CC) scored 24 points on 10-15 shooting from the field, but the Missouri Southern Lions fell behind by 19 at the half and lost 75-48 at Division I Indiana Stat tonight in their exhibition opener.

Southern went down 13 at the 12 minute mark, but cut the deficit to seven, just three minutes later on a jumper from TJ Britton (Poplar Bluff, MO/Three Rivers CC). Cox had 10 points at the half on 5-6 shooting.

The Lions cut the lead to 16 on a layup from Cox two minutes into the half, but ISU went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to run the lead to 29 at 53-24. A free-throw from Terrell Rice (St. Louis, MO/Forrest Park CC) cut the lead to 21 with six minutes left. The Sycamores outscored Southern 13-7 over the final six minutes.

Cox had a game-high 24 points. he was 10-15 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line with two rebounds and an assist. Britton scored six and added four steals, while Matt Habermehl (Independence, MO/William Chrisman HS) and Stanley Tittsworth (Muskogge, OK/Clarendon College) each scored four. Ed Miles (Dallas, TX/Clarendon College) had a team-high seven rebounds.

Gabriel Moore and Cole Holmstrom each had 14 points to lead the Sycamores.

The Lions outscored ISU 32-24 in the paint, but the Sycamores scored 27 points off of 22 Lion turnovers.

Southern will come home next Saturday, November 11 to play host to its final exhibition against Living the Dream at 5 p.m. in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
