MSSU senior Dan Jones named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Missouri Southern State University men's basketball senior Dan Jones has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII squad as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Jones, a 6-foot-7 forward/center from Sarcoxie, Mo., was selected for the first team. As a result, he will move on to the national ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ballot.

This season, Jones is second on the Lions with a scoring average of 11.3 points per game. He leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 per game and is shooting 51.7 percent (104-of-201) from the field. For his career (97 games), Jones has 532 points and 309 rebounds to go with 72 assists, 20 blocks and 30 steals. He has started 43 career games, including all 23 this year and a string of 33 straight. Jones has 16 double-figure scoring games this year and three double-doubles.

In the classroom, Jones maintains a 3.846 grade-point average as a biology (pre-medicine) major. He is a two-time member of the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and is on track for his third at the end of this season.
