Men’s basketball adds early signee

Missouri Southern State University’s men’s basketball coaching staff has added a player for the 2005-06 season, head coach Robert Corn announced today.

Stanley Titsworth, a 6-foot-3 and 215-pound guard/forward from Muskogee, Okla., has signed a national letter of intent to join the Southern basketball squad next season.

“We’re excited to have Stanley in our program and we think he’ll be an excellent addition for us,” Corn said. “He’s from Muskogee and he wanted to stay close by to play and we think it’s a great fit.

“He’s 6-3 and 215 pounds and gives us a lot of versatility in that he can play the guard or forward positions.”

Titsworth is currently attending Clarendon (Texas) College, where he averaged 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2003-04. This year, he’s averaging nine points and three rebounds an outing in limited minutes, as three of Clarendon’s six games have been against junior varsity teams. On Saturday night, Titsworth finished with 20 points, four rebounds and five steals vs. Seminole State (Okla.) College.

Titsworth prepped at Muskogee High School, where he was a standout in both football and basketball.

Missouri Southern is currently 1-0 in the 2004-05 season and is preparing to host the Freeman Sports Medicine/Chris Tucker Memorial Classic this weekend.

Corn, now in his 16th season as head men’s basketball coach at MSSU, holds a career 239-184 (.565) record with the Lions. The winningest coach in Southern men’s basketball history, Corn has led the Lions to six 20-win seasons and six consecutive berths in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Postseason Tournament.
