this year
Missouri Southern State University senior Orestus “O.C.” Cavness (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College)

Cavness, a 6-foot-3 and 205-pound senior
forward, averaged 24.7 points –– including a pair
of 30-point efforts –– for the Lions in three games
last week. He became the first Southern player since Terrance
Sisson in 1995 to post back-to-back games with at least 30
points. Cavness scored a career-high 31 points in a 75-66 loss
at Pittsburg State on Wednesday (Jan. 5), including 22 points
in the second half as he tried to rally the Lions.
He finished 10-of-16 from the field,
including 1-of-2 from the three-point line, and 10-of-13 from
the foul line. Cavness also grabbed six rebounds in the
process.
In a 73-63 win over Northwest Missouri
State on Saturday (Jan. 8), Cavness improved on his new
career-high by scoring 32 points with four rebounds and two
steals. He was 11-of-14 from the field, making his only
three-point try, while going 9-of-15 at the free throw line.
Cavness started the week with 11 points,
two assists, one rebound and one steal in MSSU’s 89-85
loss at Missouri Western on Jan. 3.
For the week, he made 64.1 percent from the
field, including 2-of-4 from long range, and 68.8 percent at
the charity stripe.
Cavness also won the Wilson/MIAA honor on
Dec. 28 after earning all-tournament honors at the Hoop
‘N’ Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Cavness is a graduate of Marshall (Texas)
High School and transferred to MSSU from Georgia Perimeter
College.
Cavness and the Lions go for back-to-back
wins on Wednesday (Jan. 12) when they host Central Missouri
State in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the Leggett & Platt
Athletic Center.
