Fans invited to Meet the Lions on Thursday
night
Fans of the Missouri Southern basketball
teams will have a chance to catch a glimpse of the 2005-06
Lions squads on Thursday night, Oct. 27, at the “Meet the
Lions Night” to be held at the Leggett & Platt
Athletic Center on the Missouri Southern State University
campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The event, sponsored by KODE-TV, gets
underway at 5:30 p.m. with the serving of hot dogs and soft
drinks. At 6 p.m., head coach Maryann Mitts leads her women's
squad onto the floor for a scrimmage with a 30-minute running
clock. The Missouri Southern men, under the direction of
17th-year head coach Robert Corn, will take to the floor
following the women, and will also participate in a 30-minute
running-clock scrimmage.
With the 2005-06 Meet the Lions Night
scheduled so close to Halloween, there will be pumpkin
decorating for children. Players from both teams will be
available for autographs and will hand out Halloween candy and
a T-shirt to all children.
The Lion men open exhibition play six days
later when they host Livin’ the Dream on Nov. 3.
Both MSSU squads also have a couple of high
profile exhibition games on the schedule this year. The
Southern women play at the University of Missouri on Nov. 5 at
1 p.m. and at the University of Arkansas on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m..
The MSSU mentravel to the University of Missouri for a Nov. 8
exhibition at 7 p.m. and play at Missouri State University
(former Southwest Missouri State) two nights later at 7:05 p.m.
The 2005-06 season begins in earnest for
the Lions on Nov. 15 at the Leggett & Platt Athletic
Center, as the MSSU women welcome East Central (Okla.) for a 5:
30 p.m. clash, followed by the Southern men vs. Central Bible
(Mo.) at 7:30 p.m.
