Five Lions on MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll April 5, 2005 Five members of the Missouri Southern State University basketball teams have been named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, the conference announced recently. For the Missouri Southern women, seniors Katie Deen (Norman, Okla.) and Vonny Wilson (Fort Worth, Texas), along with sophomore Andrea Gossard (Altamont, Kan.) were named to the honor roll. Missouri Southern men to capture the honor were senior Caleb Engelken (St. Joseph, Mo.) and junior Dan Jones (Sarcoxie, Mo.). To be named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must 1) have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the nominating institution, 2) have at least two terms of attendance at the nominating institution, excluding the summer session, 3) be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility. Redshirts or those seeking a medical hardship are not eligible. Deen, a senior guard, holds a 3.321 GPA as a kinesiology major. Gossard, a sophomore guard, maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as a computer-aided drafting & design (CADD) major. Wilson is a senior forward with a 3.367 GPA in CADD/Manufacturing Information Management Systems. Senior forward Engelken has a 3.496 cumulative GPA as a computer information systems major. Jones, a junior forward, maintains a 3.802 GPA as a biology/biochemistry major. Missouri Southern's women's basketball team finished with a 17-11 record in 2004-05 and made the squad's fifth consecutive appearance in the MIAA Postseason Tournament. The Lion men finished 14-18 overall but ended the season by winning five of their last six games and advanced to the championship game of the MIAA Postseason Tournament. |
