Eight Lions earn MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll Award

Eight members of the Missouri Southern State University basketball teams earned recognition on the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, the conference announced.

Five players from the 19-9 MSSU women’s team were named to the honor roll, including seniors Paige Christiansen and Kasey Grosse, juniors Katie Deen and Vonny Wilson, and sophomore Carol Koenig.

Christiansen, a 6-foot senior center from Pittsburg, Kan., collected the honor for the third time of her career. She is a criminal justice major with a 3.370 GPA.

Grosse was also a third-time recipient of the award. A 5-11 forward from Carl Junction, she is a nursing major with a 3.321 GPA.

Deen carries a 3.373 GPA as a Health Promotion & Wellness major. She’s a 5-9 guard from Norman, Okla. and has won the award twice in her MSSU career.

Wilson, a 5-10 forward from Fort Worth, Texas, was a first-time recipient. She maintains a 3.514 average as a computer-aided drafting & design/manufacturing information management systems major.

From the Southern men’s squad, junior Caleb Engelken earned mention on the honor roll for the second straight year, while sophomores Dan Jones and Carlos Collazo collected the award for the first time.

Engelken, 6-6 and 215 pounds, maintains a 3.435 average as an information technology major. He’s a forward out of St. Joseph, Mo.

Collazo, a 6-8 and 230 pound center from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, holds a 3.116 GPA as a computer science major.

Jones, a 6-7 and 215-pound forward from Sarcoxie, Mo., is a 3.864 student as a biology (pre-medicine) major.
