Lions announce basketball signing
Southern inks 6-foot-7 post player

Missouri Southern State University head men’s basketball coach Robert Corn announced today the signing of a sixth individual for the 2003-04 recruiting class.

Jeremie Bond, a 6-foot-7 and 230-pound center from Decatur, Ill., has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend MSSU and play basketball for the Lions in 2004-05.

“We’re very excited to add Jeremie into our program,” Corn said. “He brings a big, strong, physical presence to our program and will certainly help with our inside scoring, rebounding and interior defense. We’re happy to have Jeremie a part of our program.”

Bond played the last two seasons at Black Hawk College in Moline, Ill. As a sophomore, he averaged 18.7 points and seven rebounds per game for the Braves after a freshman season that saw him average 16 points and 10 boards an outing.

Bond was an all-region and all-conference performer at Black Hawk. He earned preseason All-America status prior to his sophomore season.

Bond, the son of Melvin Bond and Sharon Rawis, prepped at Decatur (Ill.) High School, where he was a starter at center.

He joins five others in Corn’s latest recruiting class. Since the April 14 signing date, guards Quentin Edwards (Peoria, Ill.), Daron Harris (St. Louis, Mo.), Jeremy McCadney (Union City, Tenn.) and John Taylor (Joplin, Mo.) announced their intentions to attend Missouri Southern. Point guard Tyler Ryerson (Willard, Mo.) signed with the Lions during the November early-signing period.

Missouri Southern, which began the 2004 season as one of the top 30 winningest NCAA Division II teams this decade, finished 14-14 in 2003-04. Southern made its sixth straight appearance in the MIAA postseason tournament, where it bowed out to eventual MIAA tourney champion and NCAA-II Elite Eight qualifier, Northwest Missouri State.

Corn finished the 2004 season, his 15th at the helm of the Lions, with a 238-184 (.564) career record.
