FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Southern basketball adds another signee
Daron Harris of Webster Groves High School
to join Lions
Missouri Southern’s backcourt depth
continues to improve.
Daron Harris, a
6-foot-1 guard from St. Louis, has signed a national
letter-of-intent to attend Missouri Southern State University
and play basketball with the Lions, head coach Robert Corn
announced on Friday.
“Daron is a guy that we’re very
excited to have in our program,” Corn said. “He
comes from an outstanding high school program
that’s had great success over the last three years.
“Between he and Tyler (Ryerson) we
have signed two very good high school guards that complement
each other very well and will certainly have some fun over the
next four years.”
Harris was a four-year starter as a
shooting guard at Webster Groves High School, where he finished
sixth on the school’s all-time scoring list. In 2004, he
led the Statesmen of coach Jay Blossum to a 24-5 record
and a berth in the Missouri Class 5 sectional round.
Harris averaged 12 points, 3.8 rebounds and
1.7 assists per game as a senior. He made on 48 percent of his
shots, including 39 percent from three-point range, and hit on
74.4 percent at the foul line.
Webster Groves won three Suburban South
Conference championships (2002-04) during Harris’ career.
He was named the league’s player of the year as a junior
and was a three-time, first-team all-conference selection.
Following the 2004 season, Harris was nominated for
McDonald’s All-America honors. He closed out his career
as the Statesmen’s all-time leader in three-point field
goals.
He is the son of Cecil and Marcia Harris,
and plans to study radio broadcasting at MSSU.
Harris joins Ryerson (Willard, Mo.), an
incoming freshman who signed during the November early-signing
period, and junior college transfers Quentin Edwards (Peoria,
Ill.) and Jeremy McCadney (Union City, Tenn.) as the newest
additions to the Missouri Southern program.
The 2004-05 season will mark Corn’s
16th year at the helm of the Lions, a team he has led to six
consecutive MIAA postseason tournament berths and a 105-44
record over the past five seasons.
