No. 5 Seattle Pacific whips Lions in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- No. 5 Seattle (Wash.) Pacific shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and drubbed the Missouri Southern Lions, 93-65, Saturday (Dec. 17) in the High Desert Classic.

The Falcons (6-1) shot 60.6 percent in the first half and started the game on a 21-5 run. Missouri Southern, though, made only 28.6 percent from the field and had 14 turnovers. Seattle Pacific led 47-28 at halftime behind 12 points each from Chad Williams and Tony Binetti. SPU made six three-pointers on 13 attempts in the first half.

Things didn't improve much in the second half for Missouri Southern (7-4), who trailed by 33, 70-37, with just six minutes gone after halftime. The Lions hit 40.5 percent in the second half and committed only four turnovers. Seattle Pacific continued to shoot well, making 58.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range.

Senior Quentin Edwards had 18 points, 11 in the second half, to lead the Lions. Senior Jeremie Bond added 12 points and sophomore Tyler Ryerson added 11.

Seattle Pacific, which made 12-of-27 three-pointers, was led by 19 points from Binetti. Williams chipped in 17, Drew Matzen had 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Dustin Bremerman added 16 points.

The Lions return to action in the classic on Sunday with a matchup against local rival Drury at 4:30 p.m. PST (6:30 p.m. CST).
