Southern throttles Bacone, 84-42

JOPLIN -- Every Missouri Southern player available to play tallied at least three points as the Lions doubled up Bacone (Okla.), 84-42, Tuesday (Nov. 29) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Missouri Southern (4-2) shot 50 percent for the game and 63.6 percent in the second half. The Warriors (3-4) shot only 25.4 percent for the game and had 19 turnovers.

The Lions led by as many as 21 points in the first half before going cold over the last 10 minutes of the period. Southern scored just one field goal in the final nine minutes before intermission, but still led comfortably, 32-15.

After the break, Bacone got within 16 points, 33-17 in the first 35 seconds, but MSSU put things out of reach with a 9-1 burst that was bookended by two dunks from senior Jeremy McCadney. The Lions led by 31 points with 11:49 to go.

Sophomore point guard Tyler Ryerson added to his MIAA-leading assist total by tallying 13 more helpers, a career high and two off of Eddin Santiago's school record, against only one turnover.

Four MSSU players scored in double figures, led by senior Dan Jones' 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior Quentin Edwards finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and only two turnovers. Juniors Ed Miles and Matt Habermehl added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Warriors had only one player in double figures, Chris Mathurin, who finished with 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting.

Missouri Southern returns to action this weekend (Dec. 2-3) at the Pittsburg State Pepsi/The Morning Sun Classic. MSSU's Friday opponent is St. Joseph (Vt.) at 5 p.m. Saturday, the Lions hook up with Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) at 5 p.m.
