FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bado and Russow were both named first team All-MIAA selections for the Lions. Bado was a second team selection last year as a junior, while Russow was an honorable mention selection. A 2007 second team Academic All-District selection, Bado finished second in the MIAA and fifth in Division II in receptions per game. He caught 84 passes on the season giving him the top two single season totals at Southern and the 84 passes raise his career Southern record to 250, placing him third all-time in the MIAA and 13th all time in Division II history. His 905 receiving yards this season give him 2,789 in his career, trailing only Southern hall of famer and current Denver Bronco, Rod Smith (3,122). Russow helped lead a defense that ranked first in the MIAA in total defense and pass defense efficiency. The Lions ranked 21st in Division II in total defense and 16th in pass defense efficiency. Jared Brawner and Jordan Patton were both named second team All-MIAA for the defense. Patton finished second in the MIAA in interceptions and led the MIAA in passes defended, while helping the Southern backfield to the second most interceptions (21) in school history. Brawner led the team in tackles this year with 96 and was second in the MIAA in tackles. He finished fifth in the MIAA in tackles for a loss. Anthon Aiono and Aaron Hunter were named honorable mention All-MIAA for the offense. Aiono recorded three touchdowns on the ground this season and caught another through the air. Elbert Johnson, Antwan Dyer, Corderial Collier and Justin Cowper were all named honorable mention All-MIAA on the defensive side. |
