Barbre named First-Team D2football.com All-American

Kansas City, Mo.
-- Allen Barbre (Granby, Mo.), has been named to his third All-American team this year as the senior offensive lineman was named to the first team of the D2football.com All-American Team.

Barbre, already named to the Associated Press and Coaches All-American teams, was a Daktronics All-Southwest Region first team member and was the lone offensive player this year to be a unanimous All-MIAA selection. He was a preseason D2football.com and Don Hansen's Football Gazette first team All-American selection.

He helped lead an offensive line that saw quarterback Adam Hinspeter (Centralia, Mo.) become just the second passer in Southern history to throw for 2,000 yards twice in a career. A 2005 third team AFCA All-Southwest Region selection, Barbre helped the Lions to 3,769 total yards including 2,844 passing. In 2004, he helped the team to a school record 3,575 passing yards and 1,408 on the ground.

Barbre was one of five MIAA first-team selections. He joins Pittsburg State running back Germaine Race, Northwest Missouri defensive lineman Kyle Kaiser, and linebackers Ben Harness and Thomas Smith. Named to the second-team from the MIAA were Northwest Missouri running back Xavier Omon and offensive lineman Reid Kirby, as well as Washburn defensive lineman Trey Lewis and defensive back Fletcher Terrell. Central Missouri quarterback Toby Korrodi and defensive back Kendall Ricketts, Northwest Missouri tight end Mike Peterson and defensive lineman Ryan Waters, Missouri Western defensive lineman Michael Cobbins and special teamer Jarrett Brooks, along with Pittsburg State kicker Nathan Alleman all were named honorable mention.

Barbre is Southern's first All-American since Josh Chapman in 2002, and is the first to be named First-Team since Richard Jordan in 1996. He is the fifth offensive lineman at Southern to be named First-Team All-American joining the likes of Terron Jackson (1972), Willie Williams (1976), Joel Tupper (1982) and Yancy McNight (1995). He is the ninth Lion overall to be named First-Team All-American.
