Barbre to play in Texas vs. the Nation Bowl Game

El Paso, Texas
-- Allen Barbre (Granby, Mo.), will join three others from the MIAA in the inaugural Texas vs. the Nation Bowl Game to be held at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, Friday, February 2. Kick off for the game is slated for 9 p.m. CST and it will be televised nationally on CSTV.

Barbre, is one of just 19 non-division 1 players in the game. He joins Central Missouri quarterback Toby Korrodi, Truman guard Pattrick Murray and Washburn defensive tackle Trey Lewis as the MIAA representatives invited to play in this game. Korrodi and Barbre will play for Team Texas, while Murray and Lewis will suit up for Team Nation.

This unique game pits players that either are from Texas, have played college ball in Texas or have ties to the state against players from the rest of the country. Team Texas will be coached by Texas-El Paso head coach Mike Price. Northwest Missouri head coach Mel Tjeerdmsa will serve as an assistant coach on the team. Team Nation will be coached by former Philadelphia Eagle's head coach Buddy Ryan.

Barbre was named two three different All-American squads this year and was the lone offensive player to be a unanimous All-MIAA First Team pick. He helped lead an offensive line that saw quarterback Adam Hinspeter (Centralia, Mo.) become just the second passer in Southern history to throw for 2,000 yards twice in a career. A 2005 third team AFCA All-Southwest Region selection, Barbre helped the Lions to 3,769 total yards including 2,844 passing. In 2004, he helped the team to a school record 3,575 passing yards and 1,408 on the ground.
