<< Back to Page 1 << Back to Page 2 Missouri Southern's effort to replace the artificial football playing surface and the running track at Fred G. Hughes Stadium became a reality in April of 2003. In late March of that year, the Board of Regents approved awarding the contract to Sprinturf for the replacement of the artificial turf. In April '03, the Board then approved awarding a contract to Beynon Sports Surfaces for a new track. During the summer of 2003, Sprinturf installed an artificial surface with a ground rubber infill and the football Lions used the new surface for each of their home games in the '03 season. In April of 2004, Beynon began installing the full-pore track surface at the stadium. Beynon has installed track surfaces at the University of North Carolina, the University of Tulsa, and James Madison University, among others. Plus, Missouri Southern's indoor track in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is a Beynon product. |

| The first of two polyurethane base
layers was being put in place
on the track surface during the week of March 28-April 3. |
Immediately after a new load of
the base layer is poured, a worker
smooths and evenly spreads the mixture with a rake. |

coating was being put on the
track on April 8. |
Behind the final layer of
polyurethane coating, workers were
spreading "crumb rubber" over the top. |
