Southern's Lawver named first-team All-MIAA

Overland Park, Kan. - Missouri Southern senior catcher/pitcher Luke Lawver has been named first-team All-MIAA as voted on by the coaches of the league today.

Lawver, a 6-0 senior from Joplin and Joplin HS, led the Lions in hitting this year with a .376 batting average. He ranked sixth in the league in hitting and his team-leading 20 doubles was a league-best. He added six homers and 28 RBIs to go with a .449 on base percentage and slugged .618.

Lawver, selected as a utility player, went 5-7 on the mound this year with a team-leading 39 strikeouts in 64.2 innings of work. He added two saves and had the lone shutout on the season for the Lions and was tied for second in the MIAA in that category.

Behind the plate, Lawver threw out 23 percent (14-61) of runners attempting to steal on him.

Central Missouri's Josh Paul and Darrin Hendrickson were named the League's Player and Coach of the Year, respectively. Pittsburg State's Bryson Clark was the Pitcher of the Year, while Washburn's Wes Joy was the Freshman of the Year.
