Southern Baseball signs a pitcher and catcher

Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern baseball coach Bryce Darnell has announced the signing of Josh Schnable and Jesse Elam to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and play baseball beginning in the spring of 2010.

Schnable is a 6-2 catcher from St. Louis, Mo. where he played at St. John Vianney High School for coach Steve Beiser. Schnable started for two seasons behind the plate and lettered three seasons.

As a junior, Schnable hit .382 with 49 RBIs and led the Griffons to a conference title. Also a starter at goalkeeper on the soccer team, Schnable went 14-1 this past year and led his team to a district title. He is undecided on his future major at Southern and is the son of James and Denise Schnable.

Elam is a 5-9 right handed pitcher from Ochelata, Okla. where he played at Bartlesville High School for coach Spence Rigdon. A three year starter at both pitcher and third base for the Bruins, where he was the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2008.

The son of Dennis and Kelli Elam, Jesse plans on majoring in radiology at Southern. His sister, Jamie, played collegiate softball at both Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Rollins (Fla.) College.
