FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Indianapolis, Ind. - In the midst of its best season since 2001 when the Lions competed in their last NCAA regional, the Missouri Southern baseball team has debuted in this week's South Central Poll at 7th, in a vote released by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee today. Southern has qualified for its first MIAA Tournament appearance since 2002 and is in third place currently in the MIAA standings behind Emporia State and Central Missouri. The Lions can be as high as second in the final standings, depending on the outcome of this weekend's MIAA slate of games. Southern is done with their MIAA regular season schedule. Six teams qualify for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional with the conference champions from the MIAA, Lone Star and Heartland Conference receiving automatic bids to the tournament. Cameron sits in first in the region after going 4-0 last week. Emporia State, who had held the No. 1 spot for the first two polls, dropped to second after losing three out of four to the Lions last weekend in Joplin. Angelo State is third, followed by Central Missouri, Abilene Christian, Nebraska-Omaha, Missouri Southern and St. Mary's. The Lions will play a game this Friday and two on Saturday at Rockhurst, before gearing up for the MIAA Tournament, which will be played at Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas on May 8-10.
