CJ Maffei named MIAA Pitcher of the Week

Kansas City
, Mo. - Missouri Southern junior hurler CJ Maffei (Parsons, Kan.) was awarded the MIAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced today.

Maffei earned two victories for the Lions this past week, including a victory at Central Missouri that helped snap UCM's 162 consecutive games without being shutout.

Maffei lasted 6 1/3 innings at UCM, holding the Mules scoreless and giving up only four hits with four strikeouts. The Lions went on to blank the Mules 4-0 on Mar. 30 in Warrensburg, Mo. It was also the first time the Mules had been shutout at home in exactly five years.

Maffei then pitched eight innings at Washburn last Saturday (Apr. 4) allowing no earned runs, surrendering only five hits and striking out three.

Overall, Maffei went 2-0 with an 0.00 ERA for the week.

Maffei currently leads the Lions starters in wins (6), ERA (3.12) innings pitched (57.2) and opposing batting average (.245). He has been a big reason why the Lions are currently all alone in third place in the MIAA with a 15-7 conference record, along with a 23-13 overall mark. The top four teams will advance to the MIAA Postseason Tournament on May 7-10 in Kansas City, Mo.
