FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions stranded 12 runners and committed five errors in a 6-1 loss to the St. Cloud State Huskies in the series finale Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15) at Joe Becker Stadium. The Huskies (7-3) got on the board with a pair of runs in the second inning on RBI singles from Tyler Horning and Joe Kroc. Southern (3-3) made it a one-run game by recording their lone tally when Zach Caldwell crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions had a great opportunity to take the lead in the seventh, but failed to score after stranding the bases loaded. SCSU then took advantage of three Lion errors in the eighth inning to score three times to expand the lead to 5-1. Two of the runs scored by the Huskies were the result of two throwing errors on sacrifice bunts. The Huskies added an insurance run when Nate Johnson led off the ninth with a single and later scored on a base hit by Mic Johnson. Lion hurler CJ Maffei was solid in a losing effort, pitching seven innings and giving up only two earned runs and striking out four. Pat DeLaHunt earned the victory by lasting 5 1/3 innings and allowing one run on four hits. The Lions will next be in action on Tuesday (Feb. 17) at noon with a seven-inning doubleheader against Cameron (Okla.) in Lawton, Okla. |
