Despite out hitting Ouachita Baptist, Lions fall to No. 2 Tigers, 5-4

Arkadelphia, Ark. - Despite out hitting second ranked Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon, the Missouri Southern baseball team fell to the Tigers, 5-4 at Rab Rogers field in Arkadelphia.

Southern (1-10) scored first when Cliff Wheeler put the Lions on top in the first inning, scoring on an error by the OBU catcher.

The Tigers (19-2) got a run in each of the second and third innings to go on top 2-1, but the Lions would answer with two runs in the top of the fourth inning on RBI singles from Alec French and Skyler Rawlins.

OBU got three more runs to go ahead 5-3 heading to the ninth inning. The Lions would rally, and with two outs, Wheeler doubled to left to center, scoring French for the Lions fourth run, but Wheeler would be out at third trying to stretch the double to a triple, ending the game.

Tyler Lipscomb went went six strong innings, striking out three and scattered seven hits. Jeremy Bland pitched two hitless innings in relief.

Wheeler continued his torrid hitting pace as the senior from Pittsburg went 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Wheeler is batting .727 over his last three games with eight hits in 11 at bats.

Rawlins added two hits, while four other Lions had a hit each.

Originally scheduled to be two games today and one tomorrow, the schedule was changed to play one game today and two games tomorrow (Sunday). Both teams will be back in action with two seven inning games beginning at 1 pm.
