Lions drop series
finale at Northwest, 10-0
Box Score
Maryville, Mo. -
Starter Bill Disselhoff shut out the Missouri Southern Lions on only
three hits in seven innings to lead the Northwest Missouri State
Bearcats to a 10-0 win in the series finale Sunday afternoon (Apr. 6) at
Bearcat Field in Maryville, Mo. The game was called in the seventh
inning due to the 10-run rule. The win for the Bearcats means that the
two schools will settle for a split of the four-game weekend series.
The big blow was a five-run second inning for Northwest that included an
RBI double by Ben Malick and a run-scoring single from Chris Benham. The
Bearcats (18-13, 8-8 MIAA) also benefited from two Lion errors in the
inning that led to four unearned runs against MSSU starter Tyler
Lipscomb.
Malick then hit a two-run double as part of a three-run Bearcat sixth
inning that put Northwest ahead 8-0.
The Bearcats added two more tallies in the bottom of the seventh to end
the contest.
Juan Hernandez, Skyler Rawlins and Alec French had the only hits for the
Lions (12-20, 10-8 MIAA).
Disselhoff also struck out eight and walked in the winning effort for
the Bearcats.
Next up for the Lions will be a four-game series against the
MIAA-leading Emporia State Hornets. The first game will be Friday night
(Apr. 11) with a nine-inning contest starting at 6 p.m. at Joe Becker
Stadium. The sixth-ranked Hornets have won 27 straight games and are a
perfect 18-0 in the MIAA and 32-3 overall.
