Lions drop second
straight at Oral Roberts, 11-1

Tulsa, Okla. -- The
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles scored two runs in the first and plated
four more in the second to take a commanding early lead and then
cruised to an 11-1 win over the Missouri Southern Lions Sunday (Feb.
11) in Tulsa, Okla.
The Lions (0-2) threatened early when they put runners on second and
third with two outs but failed to bring any runners home.
ORU (2-0) scored a pair of runs in the first on the strength of a
two-run home run and then a two-run single keyed the four-run second
inning.
The Golden Eagles built the lead to 10-0 before Brett Velliquette
singled home Kyle Govero in the eighth inning that put the Lions on
the board.
ORU added a run in the bottom of the eighth to finish the scoring.
Southern mustered seven hits on the day, led by three singles from
Juan Hernandez.
Luke Lawver got the start for the Lions and pitched 3 1/3 innings,
giving up six earned runs.
The Lions are next in action on Feb. 26 when they will host
Minnesota-Duluth for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Joe
Becker Stadium.
