FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lawver's home run completed a day that saw him go 5-of-6 at the plate and drive in four runs, while also pitching a perfect top half of the ninth inning to pick up the victory. The smash by Lawver also finished a come-from-behind eight-run rally by the Lions. Southern trailed 13-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before making their surge. Henry Adams nailed a two-run double and David Cheney and Kyle Govero each hit run-scoring singles as the Lions climbed back into it with four runs in the seventh. The Lions then tied the score in the eighth when Lawver and Scott Klassen each singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a two-run double by Kyle Knight. Knight then scored the tying run when Kyle Cupp reached on an error. The Blue Devils scored the game's first run on a monster solo home run to center field by Seth Maier. The Lions quickly gained the lead in the bottom of the first with three runs that was keyed by four doubles in the inning. Lawver and Adams each had RBI two-base hits in the first. Stout regained control the next inning by tallying seven runs that included a two-run single by Maier to go up big early, 8-3. Ryan Estes got the start for the Lions and gave up eight runs, seven earned on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Scotty Roberson, Michael Meyer, Jacob Garrison, Nick Tuck, Aaron Jenkins and Lawver combined 7 2/3 innings and allowing only five runs the rest of the way. Next up for the Lions is the start of MIAA action with a four-game weekend series against the Fort Hays State Tigers. The first game is on Friday (Mar. 16) at 6 p.m. in Hays, Kan.
