Central Missouri bests Southern, 10-0

Warrensburg, Mo. - Blaine Rutledge went 3-5 and drove in four runs
to lead the No. 11-ranked Central Missouri Mules past the Missouri
Southern Lions, 10-0 Friday night (Apr. 27) in Warrensburg, Mo.
Rutledge drove in the first UCM run in the first on an RBI groundout
that put the Mules up 1-0.
Will Feil then hit a two-run home run off Southern starter Michael Meyer
in the third that made it 3-0 in favor of the MIAA-leading Mules (41-8,
23-5MIAA).
Meyer hung tough for the Lions (15-28, 8-20 MIAA) until a four-run fifth
broke the game open and the Mules added two more in the sixth to take a
commanding nine-run lead. Meyer was charged with nine runs in 5
1/3 innings pitched in the defeat.
Seth Gilleland and Peter Davenport teamed up for UCM to shut out the
Lions offense on six hits.
Gilleland got the victory after lasting five innings and surrendering
four hits to run his record to 10-1 on the season. Davenport
earned the save by working the final three innings and giving up only
two Lion hits.
Cliff Wheeler and Brett Velliquette led the Lions with two hits apiece.
MSSU and UCM will continue their weekend series and play two
seven-inning games tomorrow (Apr. 29) starting at 1 p.m.
