Griffons score two
late and rally to defeat Lions, 4-3

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Western Griffons took advantage of a
Missouri Southern throwing error in the ninth inning as Ben Toedebusch
singled in two runs with two out off reliever Luke Lawver to give the
Griffons a 3-2 win over the Lions Friday night (Apr. 20) in St. Joseph,
Mo.
The Lions (15-24, 8-16 MIAA) scored first when Henry Adams singled in
Juan Hernandez in the first inning to put MSSU ahead 1-0.
After the Griffons (19-20, 12-11 MIAA) tied the score in the third, the
Lions regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI double by Lawver, who
later scored when he advanced to third on a wild pitch and then crossed
the plate on a throwing error by the catcher.
Western cut the lead to one in the seventh on an RBI single by Vicente
Rivera to set up the ninth inning rally.
Southern starter Michael Meyer was solid for seven innings, giving up
only two runs on nine hits in a no-decision.
Brent Roach pitched two scoreless innings in relief of starter A.J
Huttonlocker to pick up the victory for the Griffons.
The Lions and Griffons will play a seven and nine inning doubleheader
tomorrow (Apr. 21) beginning at 1 p.m.
