United Way Day of Caring

The United Way of Southwest Missouri is hosting the Day of Caring on Friday, June 5. Volunteers begin their service at 8:30 a.m. and work until particular projects are completed. Last year that was about 12:30 p.m.

This special project is a way to help United Way agencies by volunteering a few hours on this day. We are currently looking for a few people to help volunteer their time to give back to their community. This is a great way to get Missouri Southern out into the community and show support for many other much needed non-profit organizations.

If you could help volunteer a few hours of your time on Friday, June 5, please email bryant-e@mssu.edu, or call ext. 3068 by 5 p.m., Monday, May 18.

Honors Signing welcomes students

Students invited to join the prestigious Honors Program were introduced during a formal signing ceremony on Friday, May 6 in the Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall at MSSU.

Missouri Southern welcomed its academic team with enthusiasm similar to that given star athletes who make a decision to attend a college or university. Many high school teachers, counselors, administrators and family members watched the students make their choices official.

Missouri Southern President Bruce Speck welcomed the students as they took this important step in their educational career. All the students will attend Missouri Southern this fall and several have already completed a number of college hours

For a complete list of students signing, including photographs, visit http://www.mssu.edu/news/2009/honors_signingrelease09.html

What is
Girls Night Out, Inc.?

Girls Night Out is a non-profit organization whose goal is to empower women through education and opportunity. Working initially with Missouri Southern, the group sponsored a scholarship for the fall and spring 2008-2009 semesters, targeted toward non-traditional female students.

The MSSU scholarship is aimed at providing non-traditional female students who are attempting to return to the work force an opportunity for a college education.

Ultimately, the group has visions for GNO, Inc. to host other local and regional events that will raise money for our cause.

As means increase, GNO, Inc. will work with our board of directors to expand our scholarship opportunities for other women in need.
