Come one, come all!

Deadline: Tuition and fees due December 17

Missouri Southern has implemented a fee-collection policy change for the spring 2008 semester.

The University will implement the policy that 100% of tuition, fees and books will be due prior to the beginning of classes for spring 2008.

Pre-enrolled students’ payment must be received by the Business Office by Dec. 17 of 2007.   Students’ options for payment remain open for this fee collection policy change.

Financial aid that is completed and ready to process to the student’s account with full payment will preserve the student’s class schedule.

Please note that deadlines for filing FAFSA for the fall 2008 semester have been moved up to ensure that students’ financial aid is packaged in time to coincide with fee collection policy changes.

Students are encouraged to view and pay their accounts online via LioNet using the Quick Pay channel. LioNet offers secure access to payment online by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) and check.

Using this option for payment will help the student avoid the long lines associated each semester with fee due dates.

TuitionPay, a monthly payment plan company used for years by MSSU, will be available for students still wishing to make payments for any current balance on their account.

Signing up before Dec. 1 enables students to enroll for a 5 month payment plan. However, students must be signed up for this option prior to the fee due date.

Going Green:  MSSU implements electronic bill policy

Paper bills for student accounts will no longer be mailed beginning in spring 2008.  Students will now be responsible for viewing their student account details for the desired term online via LioNet.

To accommodate students, a Quick Pay channel has been added to LioNet.  This channel gives students one-click access to a real-time view of their student account and one-click access to pay their account via credit card or check.

Students may view their account immediately following enrollment and the current balance on their student account will reflect the charges incurred upon enrollment.

Book charges do not show on students' accounts until the books have been picked up from the Bookstore and, due to a software interface, those charges lag slightly in posting to accounts.

China Semester programs

Ethan Michelson, assistant professor of sociology and East Asian languages and cultures at Indiana University-Bloomington, will make two China Semester presentations this morning, Friday, Nov. 16.

Michelson will present "Family Planning in Rural China" at 10 a.m. this morning in Webster Hall Auditorium. Admission is free.

At 11 a.m., he will present "Sources of Conflict in Rural China" in the same location.

His research on Chinese lawyers, grievances and disputing in rural China, and newspaper legal advice columns in urban China have been published in the top journals in his fields, including the American Sociological Review, the American Journal of Sociology, The China Quarterly, and Social Problems. He has an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago.

Flu shots still available

The Student Health Center at MSSU has made arrangements with Freeman Occumed, 32nd and McClelland in Joplin, for flu shots.

Pam Hosp, Student Health Center, says the shots, which cost $17, will be given from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at that location until further notice. No appointment is necessary.

If further information is needed, please call Freeman Occumed at (417) 347-6625.

Warming communities . . . one coat at a time

Winter is nearly here and children need coats. The MSSU Golden Crest Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honors Society, is collecting clean, reusable coats and jackets to assist the One Warm Coat community service effort. Coats of all shapes and sizes are welcome and nearly all children's sizes are needed.

One Warm Coat is dedicated to distributing reusable coats, free of charge, directly to local children and adults.  The program is a wonderful way for you and your family to pass along coats and jackets that you no longer need.

ODK makes donating a coat simple. Bring your coats and jackets to the blue boxes located in the following MSSU buildings: Webster Hall; Hearnes Hall; Reynolds Hall; Billingsly Student Center (Lion's Den); Taylor Education Building; Spiva Library; Plaster Hall; and East, McCormick and Blaine Residence Halls.

The coat drive will last until Friday, Dec. 7. More information is available at http://www.onewarmcoat.org.

Since One Warm Coat's inception in 1992, more than 400,000 coats have been provided at no cost to those in need. For information, contact Elaine Freeman, Teacher Education, at ext. 9759 or ODK president Sarah Johns at (816) 752-5888.

Gardasil clinic

Pick up a pre-registration form and fill it out now for the next Gardasil Clinic at MSSU.  The dates and times are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Wednesday & Thursday, Nov. 28 - 29.

If you missed the first clinic, it’s still not too late to start the series. Pick up an information packet from the Student Health Center ASAP.

Gardasil is for girls and women ages 9 to 26. Gardasil works when given prior to contact with HPV Types 6, 11, 16, and 18.

If a woman is already been infected with HPV, she may still benefit from Gardasil because it is unlikely she has been infected with all 4 types of the virus.

Canadian football playoffs, championship on KGCS

Professional football action north of the border heads into the final two weeks on America One and KGCS-TV, with the Canadian Football League division championship games and Grey Cup Championship game scheduled to air the next two Sundays.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, Canadian Football presents the East Championship game at noon, with Winnipeg at Toronto. At 3:30 that afternoon, the West Championship game is present, featuring Saskatchewan at British Columbia. The CFL season concludes with the annual Grey Cup Championship game at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25.

"A lot of people enjoy watching Canadian football, with its slightly different rules and field layout," says Judy Stiles, KGCS-TV General Manager. "We have received phone calls throughout the CFL season, wanting to know when games would be televised. So, KGCS will stay with America One on the next two Sundays for complete coverage of the playoff games and championship game."

KGCS programming may be seen on UHF channel 57, Cable One channel 7 and Mediacom channel 77.

Free admission to home opener

Kevin Greim, Athletics, says admission will be free to the Lions women's home basketball opener beginning at 6 p.m., Wed., Nov. 28.

The Lions will play Webster University. Donations to help fund breast cancer research will be encouraged at the entrances. All proceeds from donations and concessions will go to the American Cancer Society and the Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation.

Also, Freeman and St. John's hospitals have sponsored commemorative pink uniforms for our girls to wear that night. We will auction off the jerseys and all money raised will also be split between the two charities.

Bid on the jerseys by visiting http://www.mssu.edu/athletics/pinkout.htm.
