The 46th Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 in the Leggett & Platt AthleticCenter. This semester's graduation ceremony is especially historic in that the first-ever group of students will .receive Master’s degrees in Teaching as a part of Missouri Southern’s Cooperative Graduate Program with Northwest Missouri State University Ceremonies will be held at 9:30 a.m. for students receiving Master’s Degrees, students from the School of Business, students from the School of Education and students receiving Bachelor’s degrees in General Studies.
Featured speakers will include: Dr. Gregory G. Fitch, Commissioner of Higher Education in Missouri; Dr. Dean Hubbard, President of Northwest Missouri State University; Senator Gary Nodler, Assistant Majority Floor Leader, 32nd District, Missouri State Senate; and Dr. Julio Leon, President, Missouri Southern State University. The 12 noon ceremony will be held for students from the School of Arts & Sciences, students from the School of Technology and students receiving Associate’s degrees. A total of 563 degrees will be issued to 526 graduates including six Master’s degrees, 468 Bachelor’s degrees and 89 Associate’s degrees. Following the ceremonies, a reception will be held on the lawn directly in front of the Young Gymnasium Lobby where graduates may meet with families and others. In the event of inclement weather, the receptions will be held in Young Gymnasium. A total of 563 degrees will be issued to 526 graduates including six Master’s degrees, 468 Bachelor’s degrees and 89 Associate’s degrees. Tatiana Tessman, 26, of Russia, was awarded First Prize in the Senior Division of the Eleventh Missouri Southern International Piano Competition held April 24-29 on the Missouri Southern campus. Ms. Tessman received a $10,000 cash award plus a New York debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The Carnegie Hall recital is scheduled for Oct. 9.Sergei Saratovsky, 24, of Russia was awarded Second Prize and $5,000. Sang-il Han, 22, of Korea was awarded Third Prize and $3,000.Two Honorable Mention prizes of $2,000 each went to Esther Park, 21, of the United States, and Ti Xin, 20, of China. First Prize winner Tatiana Tessman previously won the Grand Prize at the 2005 Santorini International Piano Competition in Greece and Grand Prize in the 2002 Glenn Gould International Piano Competition in Italy. She was co-winner of the First Prize in the 2005 Wideman International Piano Competition.She has studied with Sergei Dorensky and Valery Kastelsky at the Moscow State Conservatory and is now studying with Stanislav Ioudenitch at Park University International Center for Music in Parkville, Missouri. Sixteen-year-old Xiaoqiu Xue of China claimed First Prize in the Junior Division of the Eleventh Missouri Southern International Piano Competition At the Gala Winners Concert Saturday, April 29, the winners of the Junior and Senior Divisions were awarded cash prizes that totaled over $30,000. Eighty to graduate with Honors Missouri Southern State University’s 46th graduating class includes 80 students who will graduate with honors Thirty-four students earned a four-year grade point average of 3.9 or above on a 4.0 scale and will graduate Summa Cum Laude. Eight had perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Twenty-two students will graduate Magna Cum Laude with grade point averages of 3.80 to 3.89. Nineteen students will graduate Cum Laude with grade point averages of 3.70 to 3.79. Two students are receiving Associate Degrees graduating with First Honors, indicating a grade point average of 3.90 or above. One will graduate with Second Honors, indicating a grade point average of 3.80 to 3.89. Two will graduate with Third Honors indicating a grade point average between 3.70 to 3.79. Suzuki students to perform Saturday Suzuki Violin Academy students will perform two recitals on Saturday, May 13, at Webster Auditorium. The first recital begins at 1 p.m. The second one starts at 2:30 p.m. The performing students are ages 5-17. They are from Alba, Anderson, Baxter Springs, Carl Junction, Carthage, Diamond, Granby, Grove, Joplin, Lamar, Miami, Neosho, and Webb City. The recitals are open to the public and admission is free. Cardinal contest winners announced Two employees have won two tickets each to the May 29 Cardinals game in St. Louis according to Judy Stiles, KGCS General Manager. The contest was sponsored by the television station. The winners are Keith Robertson, Teacher Education and Rae Surber, Switchboard. Twenty other contestants won Cardinals 2006 calendars. "We want to publicize this to the university community," Dan says. "We have an organization chart, an FAQ list and other features on the site."
Dan says that active news items about Lionet and the SunGard Higher Education/Banner software project will be posted on the site and will be updated.
The BANNER software will replace the current mainframe system and all of its core administrative systems, including Finance, Human Resources, Student, Financial Aid, Alumni and Foundation. The new BANNER system will fully integrate those divisions, it is Internet-native, and runs on an Oracle database platform.
Another edition of Education Digest
"Education Digest", a show hosted by Jerry Williams, Director of Lifelong Learning, focuses on topics that are of great interest to our community. During the second segment, "Between the Covers", a faculty member of MSSU will discuss a recent book they have enjoyed reading. This week's program discusses violence and school bullies with Larry Flatt, Teacher Education. Doris Walters, English, will talk about some of her favorite children’s books.

Education Digest will also be shown at 6:30 p.m. Saturday nights and at 7 p.m. Sundays on SITV which is seen in Monett, Lamar, Carthage, and surrounding areas on Cox Cable systems and in Neosho on the Cebridge Cable system.
