Don't overlook this valuable resource to faculty/staff

After talking with someone at the college who had purchased a national anthem CD, Jeff Skibbe, KXMS, reminds college employees that the station is not only a cultural resource of MSSC but also a culural resource to the college and its various mission needs. Aside from a 29,800-title library fully cataloged and quickly accessed via computer, the classical radio station also has every country's national anthem--sometimes three versions. It takes only a few seconds to locate resources. Some employees of the public information, music, and communications departments already utilize radio library resources. Others are invited to follow suit. For information, contact Jeff Skibbe at ext. 9678.

The 'write' stuff - The Winged Lion named best in nation

The 2001 issue of The Winged Lion, a collaborative effort of the Art Department and the English & Philosophy Department, has been named by the American Scholastic Press Association as the Most Outstanding College Literary Art Magazine for 2001. Joy Dworkin, English, and David Noblett, Art Department, are the sponsors. The Winged Lion has previously been judged a First-Place award winner by ASPA on numerous occasions, but this is the first time for the publication to have been judged best in the nation.

"The literary staff and contributors of the 2001 issue . . . include some of the most talented and thoughtful writers I have had the pleasure to teach at MSSC," Dworkin says. "Another pleasure in working on The Winged Lion is the collaboration between departments." In addition to ASPA honors, The Winged Lion received the prestigious Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) on four previous occasions, 1985, 1987, 1995 and 1998.
