Good news for Teacher Education

The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) recently completed their evaluation of Missouri Southern's Teacher Education program. Michael Horvath, School of Education, reports that the news is good. NCATE complimented MSSC's Teacher Education program. All standards except the new Standard 2, Assessment System, were passed and no mention was made either of two past concerns, diversity and library resources. Horvath says the team's report should lead NCATE to re-accredit the MSSC program within a few months. The DESE team will recommend approval of all teacher education programs to the state board except French Education and German Education which still are too new to have a track record. Final approval status will probably be determined at the April meeting of the State Board of Education.

Up to that point neither Mrs Punke or Mrs Winn had any affiliation with MSSC. Five years later, former Foundation Director, Sue Billingsly, received a phone call to let her know Mrs Punke had entered a managed health care facility and would no longer be able to make contributions in memory of her sister.
