South Africa, will be held from 7:30-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, in Webster
auditorium. A prayer vigil will be held after the Boylan presentation.
Career Services to host Career Development DayCareer Services will host Career Development Day, from 9 a.m.- 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3 in Billingsly Student Center. Career Development Day attracts more than 100 local and national employers who introduce students to a variety of career opportunities. Students will have a chance to meet the employers in an informal setting during a "Networking Reception" from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2 on the second floor lounge of the Billingsly Student Center. Employers attending Career Development Day will have the opportunity to staff information booths from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. "Career Break-out" sessions from 9 a.m. to Noon Wednesday will offer students a chance to learn more about specific career fields.Question and answer sessions with selected employers are designed to give students access to professionals who work in those career fields. Enjoy a draught of Cedric Liqueur's MacbethCedric Liqueur, thespian and playwright, continues his North American one-man solo performance tour with a condensed adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth at Missouri Southern. Southern's Theatre Department will sponsor an appearance by Liqueur at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1 at the Bud Walton Theatre. The actor's performances also combine the stage plays Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra and Shakespeare's sonnets. He also presents prose, poems and sonnets by Michelangelo Buonarroti, Sappho, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Ranier Maria Rilke, Oscar Wilde, Kohn Keats, Thomas Wolfe and Langston Hughes. No reservations are necessary. The presentation is free and open to the public.Fifty-Three Engaging in Professional SemestersFifty-three education majors are engaging in their student teaching "professional semester" in the teacher education program. The experience is one of the requirements for graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in education (BSE). All of the teacher candidates will be in classrooms for 10 weeks under the supervision of a certified teacher. Melissa Deshayes, Elementary Education major from Joplin, will meet an additional challenge through a special student teaching experience at Dexheim Elementary School in Dexheim, Germany. Lunch, Japanese StyleA special Japanese lunch will be served today, Friday, Sept. 28, in the Dianne Mayes Student Life Center cafeteria. Enjoy teriyaki chicken breast, fish tempura, yakatori meatballs, Japanese rice and Japanese vegetables for only $5 per person. The meal will be served from 10:40 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.Dona Flor to show Tuesday night in Matthews AuditoriumBruno Barreto's lusty comedy, Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Matthews Hall Auditorium on the MSSC campus. This is the second program in the International Film Festival presented by the Missouri Southern Film Society. Financial assistance is provided by the Missouri Arts Council and the Institute of International Studies. Gary Arnold of the Washington Post describes Dona Flor as "A classic erotic comedy Barreto can express lust with class, and it's an exhilarating, civilized gift." Season tickets for the remaining nine programs are $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students. Single admission is $1.50 for adults and $1 for senior citizens and students. Four States Regional College FairA virtual mobile library full of higher education choices is scheduled to arrive at Missouri Southern Wednesday, Oct. 10. That's when approximately 70 colleges, universities and technical schools will be represented at the fourth Four States Regional College Fair from 5-7 p.m. at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center at Missouri Southern. Admission is free. Public and private colleges and universities from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Iowa will be among those represented.Free cholesterol screenings availableSeptember is designated as National Cholesterol Education Month. In an effort to increase awareness about cholesterol and a healthy heart, the wellness office will be offering FREE cholesterol screens to all faculty and staff over the next several weeks. This is a non-fasting, fingerstick screen that will tell you within 5-7 minutes your total cholesterol and HDL (good cholesterol). Gockel Symposium speakers on TVThe three speakers from this Wednesday's Gockel Symposium will be featured guests on an upcoming edition of Newsmakers, hosted by Judy Stiles, Communications. The show will feature Mark Tilton, Purdue University;William Tsutsui, University of Kansas; and William Farrell, head of Dynamic Strategies of Asia. Turkey day in the "Big Easy"The International Club is organizing a trip to New Orleans during the Thanksgiving break. Club members are looking for a member of the faculty/staff able to accompany them on the trip. They will be leaving the evening of Nov. 20, and, while there, will visit museums, the zoo, plantations, and other sites. They will return on Sunday, Nov. 25. . He spoke on dreams and sleep issues to members of Freeman Hospital's Stroke Recovery Support Group.
