Engineering Technology Student Organizations

An active Society of Manufacturing Engineering (SME) student chapter sponsors social and educational events as well as provides students with the opportunity to network and gain the competitive edge needed for building lucrative careers. Club activities include plant tours, homecoming activities, Engineering Technology initiation event, career fairs and other events.

The SME student chapter hosted the following events in 2010 and 2011:

  • Bi-Annual Material Symposium (Industry professionals and regional High School students are invited to learn about the newest metallurgical material testing methods and instruments)
  • Plant tours to B&W Trailer Hitches, Humboldt, KS and Tamko Building Products, Inc., Lamar, MO
  • "Open House" to showcase the department and seniors to the SME senior chapter
  • Engineering Technology Initiation event (eligible students are initiated into the major)

SME members also participated in senior chapter meetings that included educational presentations and helped with the annual Skills USA Machine Tooling and Drafting & Design competitions.
