The importance of learning the languages of the world is becoming more apparent all the time. Acknowledging this importance in regards to international relations and intercultural understanding. Every student who majors or minors in a foreign language has technology, tutors, audiovisual materials, language clubs and dedicated teachers beside them to guide and enhance their language proficiency. However, it is language immersion that polishes linguistic skills for a high quality finish. To help foreign language majors reach their highest oral proficiency level they are required to travel abroad through approved study programs, faculty lead tours and/or semester long stays through the Institute of International Studies which provides grants to subsidize travel for certain students. To gauge language proficiency, diagnostic tools are used at multiple levels throughout students' academic careers. Those tools yield the best results after immersion experiences showing both students' current language abilities and areas needing improvement, thus preparing them for graduation, graduate school and eventually, employment.
