General Studies

General Studies Degree

  • Bachelor of Science in General Studies (B.S.G.)

The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is an alternative for students who do not wish to pursue an existing major. Two versions of the BGS are available.

  • The General BGS requires that a student complete all General Education Requirements and other degree requirements including the Writing Intensive (WI) and upper division. To pursue this option the student should consult with an adviser and declare the BGS as a major.
  • The Directed BGS also requires that a student complete all general education requirements and other degree requirements including Writing Intensive (WI) and upper division. Additionally, a committee of faculty works with the student to combine courses from several areas to create a distinctive program. To pursue this option the student should declare the BGS as a major and consult with the dean of the school most closely associated with the course work. The dean will appoint a faculty committee to help the student structure the Directed BGS.
