Continuing Education Classes

Students must have enrolled and have paid for the course BEFORE the first class meeting. In cases where the class size is limited, students are enrolled based on the order they enrolled and paid for the class. If an email address is provided on the form, students will recieve email confirmation of successfull registration in the course. If the class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, students who provide an email address will be notified by email.

BASIC SILVERSMITHING I             Get Enrollment Form HERE

Instructor: Peggy Lierheimer

This is a “hands on” workshop where students will learn basic sterling silver fabrication processes including sawing, filing, sanding, polishing and soldering. Students will also learn to bezel set a stone and how to make various other jewelry findings. Class will meet twice a week for 8 weeks. Space is limited to 16 workstations. A $45 equipment fee applies. Consumable materials, such as sheet metals are extra.

Meets: January 15 through March 7, 2013
Time: 1:00-4:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday
Location: Fine Arts Building Room 315

The Choral Society is a non-auditioned 70-voice choir open to anyone in the four-state area who is university age or older.

CLAY TECHNIQUES               Get Enrollment Form HERE

Instructor: Brent Skinner

This is an intensive hands-on clay workshop utilizing stoneware or porcelain that is for both beginners and established clay artists Students may create functional or non-functional items utilizing the potters wheel or by using hand building techniques. Glazing and firing methods using food-safe glazes are part of the course. A $40 studio fee covers firings and glaze materials, clay is not included but may be purchased at the studio. Enrollment is limited.

Instructor: Chris Thompson

This academy covers all aspects of firefighting, firefighter safety, rescue, fire prevention, incident management, emergency vehicle familiarization, emergency driving, fire pump operations, and more. It is a mixture of classroom and hands-on evolutions including live firefighting exercises. The academy prepares the student to take five separate state certification exams: Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Fire Department Driver/Operator. (The Driver/Operator portion of the class is optional An additional book is required to be purchased by the student.) The firefighting course is IFSAC approved and will transfer to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, as well as most other states Students are required to spend 20 hours riding and observing at area fire departments and emergency dispatch centers.

Time: Monday & Wednesday (6:00-10:00 p.m.) as well as six (6) Saturdays (8:00AM-5:00PM)

Enrollment: Class size is limited to 30.
Fee: $985 includes books, uniforms, test, all equipment and materials. Students taking this course as part of their regular degree program may be eligible for financial aid. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 417.625.9325 for more information.

SELF-DEFENSE       Get Enrollment Form HERE

Instructor: John J. Karriman

This course is designed to keep the interest of all participants, from the complete beginner to those with advanced training Techniques of the Takeda clan’s Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu will be explored in the comfort and safety of a controlled environment. Sessions are five weeks long and are ongoing, with students encouraged to sign up for the next five week block of instruction.

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Mondays and Fridays
Location: Criminal Justice Multipurpose room (gym)

Credit: 1 Credit Hour
Fee: $85 per set
