Dr. David L. Sharlow, a native Kansan, received his Ph.D in Music Education and Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Missouri Kansas City. Prior to his doctoral work, Dr. Sharlow enjoyed 12 years as a high school vocal music teacher; most notably in the Wichita, Kansas area. He also holds a Masters degree in Music Education from Wichita State University and a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Friends University. Prior to coming to Missouri Southern State University, Dr. Sharlow was Interim Director of Choral Activities at the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Dr. Sharlow’s research revolves around the psychological, sociological, and anthropological aspects of the music ensemble – specifically focusing on the value of individual achievement and motivation within the confines of an ensemble.
