Education:

  • Ph.D. in English from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette
  • M.F.A. in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Fiction from the University of Alaska
  • Bachelor's degree from James Madison University, English and Secondary Education with a minor in Film Studies

In 1999 I received my Bachelor's degree from James Madison University where I double-majored in English and Secondary Education with a minor in Film Studies. In 2003 I received my M.F.A. in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Fiction from the University of Alaska at Anchorage. In 2007 I received my Ph.D. in English from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. My primary teaching areas are: children's and young adult literature, film studies, American literature to 1900, creative writing, and 19th- century British literature.

I am a member of the Children's Literature Association, the Southwest Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association, Sigma Tau Delta, and NCATE (the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

My scholarly work has appeared in such publications as Interdisciplinary Humanities, Jura Gentium Cinema, and Magazine Americana.

My creative work has appeared in such publications as Cave Region Review, Flashquake, Farmhouse Magazine, Moronic Ox Literary and Cultural Journal, and Mud Luscious.
