Diversity

MSSU DIVERSITY COMMITTEE BACKGROUND

In the spring of 2006, as part of the Foundations of Excellence self-study, the Diversity Dimension Report was completed. Within this report, a recommendation suggested there is a need to organize a campus-wide Advisory Committee.

In the summer of 2006, the Vice President for Academic Affairs proposed the creation of a new administrative committee that would include extensive representation from faculty and staff. The President approved this proposal and in August 2006, each Dean was asked to identify two faculty members to represent their school.

Consequently, on September 1, 2006, the Advisory Committee was appointed.

In August 2007, this committee was reconstituted and the following Advisory Committee was appointed for the 2007-2008 academic year

“We Make the Road by Walking”

*The phrase “we make the road by walking” is an adaptation of a proverb by the Spanish poet Antonio Machado, in which one line reads “se hace camino al andar,” or “you make the way as you go.” See Antonio Machado, Selected Poems, trans. Alan S. Trueblood (Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1982), 143.
