Description:


Vertical long period Benioff Seismometer with black aluminum cylinder cover 26 cm dia x 49.5 cm H - Electrical output is from coils of a variable reluctance structure. ITEM #66 VERTICAL SEISMOMETER (BELIEVE IT IS CALLED A BENIOFF, BUT UNCERTAIN OF THE NAME)

The outside case is latched on to prevent outside air currents from reaching it and the internal mass is supported on a central spring. A transducer is mounted at one end to generate electric current so that the instrument can be used to transmit electric signals to a drum recorder for earthquake recording. The matching instrument is #67 which is a Horizontal Seismometer
