#63 EWING PRESS HORIZONTAL SEISMOMETER - About 1952

It is a horizontal boom whilch is hinged near the post at the bottom and the weight is supported by a diagonal wire attached to the top mechanism. The adjustment on the top wire places the boom in the appropriate vertical sense and in the horizontal sense so that the hinge points are at the desired location. A coil of wire is attached to the mast of the boom and a permanent magnet is mounted on the base plate that surrounds the coil of wire so that whenever the boom moves a signal is generated in the electric wire, and this can be transmitted to drum recorders so that the drum recorder can record the earthquake waves.
