Welcome to the Environmental Health program at Missouri Southern State University.

Environmental health is "the science of protecting the human environment". Environmental Health practitioners keep human environments healthy and safe from chemical, biological, physical and radiological hazards.

Our Environmental Health program is one of only 24 nationally accredited programs*. Some agencies such as the U.S. Public Health Service will hire only graduates of accredited schools for positions in environmental health.

The coursework required for the Environmental Health degree provides marketable skills and knowledge. Specialized courses such as environmental protection, epidemiology, toxicology, environmental regulations, food & community sanitation, soil morphology & sewage systems, and occupational health & safety provide specific information and training for a career as an environmental health practitioner. Students will understand the effect of hazards on the human body, the effect of pollutants on ecosystems and the role of humans as an integral part of the biosphere.

All Environmental Health majors must complete an internship. The internship provides first hand practical experience in the environmental health field. Students may intern with companies or agencies across the nation. Students may earn up to 8 credit hours and can get paid at the same time!

International opportunities are readily available for our students. The Environmental Health program allows students to complete internships, independent research, or to take courses for credit in other countries. International exposure is part of the mission of Missouri Southern.
